Case study – Support study for the sizing of a storage hopper for recycled powders
Sector: Waste treatment
Customer type: Group
Service contact: New works
The Client wishes to develop a silo for storing recycled powders and calls on Rheonis to determine the hopper angle to guarantee flow taking into account the nature of the powders and the material expected for the silo.
Expertise in the physical behavior of powders
In response to this request, RHEONIS implemented its skills in instrumental techniques for the behavior of powders and the interpretation of results for the design of installations.
The stages of the study were therefore as follows:
- Adaptation of the instrumental device to the material
- Quantification of wall friction and internal friction properties
- Estimation of the hopper angle adapted by modeling and charts
- Operational recommendations
Intervention System Gauge
Reliable sizing of installations using instrumental techniques
The study provided the Customer with scientifically robust elements for the sizing of his installation. The physical parameters associated with the physical behavior of powders in installations, often poorly quantified, make it possible to make pilot approaches more reliable through rapid, reliable and relatively inexpensive tests, and thus to guide technical choices.
The advantages of rheometric techniques for powders
Quantification of parameters related to dynamic behaviors
Adjustment of protocols to simulate implementation constraints
Low material consumption
Ability to take into account environmental factors (hygrometry, thermal)
